A
dynamic teacher with a specialty in pedagogy and repertory for children,
Svetlana Todinova, has been invited to reprise her role as children’s ballet
mistress and soloist with Moscow Ballet for its 14th anniversary
season.
Svetlana Todinova was born July 2, 1978 in Yadrin, Russia. In 1997, after graduating from the Ufa Choreographic School, she was invited to join the Krasnodarsk Musical Theater. In 1999, she joined Russia’s renowned National Academy of Theatrical Arts- GITIS Moscow, which was founded in 1878 by theater pioneers Konstantin Stanislavsky and V. Nemirovich-Danchenko. GITIS’ ballet department was founded in 1946 under A. Gorsky, R. Zakharov and Leonid Lavaovsky of the Bolshoi Ballet with equal state funding to the Bolshoi. Formed as a training ground for choreographers and directors, it continues its mission to preserve the heritage of Russian classical ballet.
Known for her high speed jumps and turns and her strong accents, Ms. Todinova is known affectionately by those in the company as "The Baby Swan" for her role in the classic "Swan Lake." Along with Swan Lake, her repetoire includes, The Nutcracker, Futile Precaution, Giselle, Kopelia and La Bayadere.
She has toured Italy, Ireland and China as well as the United States.
